Northern California Japanese Sword Club

ABOUT NCJSC
The Northern California Japanese Sword Club, founded in the early 1960’s, is one of the oldest Nihonto clubs in the United States. We are a registered non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and study of Japanese swords as art objects, including sword blades, sword guards, fittings, armor and related works of art.
MEETINGS
Our club meetings are held in the historic Japantown district of San Francisco on the third Sunday of each month, except for the months of April and August. Non-members are welcome to attend. All are encouraged to bring Japanese swords, fittings and related items for discussion and appreciation. Meetings are broadcast on Zoom for remote members.

Next Meeting: June 15, 2025
Theme: Hokurikudo. Fourth installment of the five provinces and seven roads.

EDUCATION
NCJSC hosts discussions about Japanese swords from different perspectives (by time period, by province, by schools). In addition to our monthly newsletter called “To-Ron,” we also provide opportunities for Nyusatsu Kantei, attributing a sword to its maker/school based on observations of artistic and physical characteristics.
Mission Statement
"The specific and primary purposes are to institute programs for the study and appreciation of and promote and undertake activities to encourage the preservation of ancient and modern Japanese samurai blades, sword fixtures, armours and related objects for their cultural, artistic and historical values and aesthetic and expert craftsmanship."
